William “Bill” R. Cox, 71, went to be with the Lord Saturday at his home.

He was born March 16, 1944, in Washington, to the late Ernest “Doc” and Marguerite (Traylor) Cox.

Bill graduated from Washington High School. He served in the United Stated Air Force. After his time in the service he went to work for McCord Corporation in Washington. He then worked and retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane where he was the lead over the electronic cable and wiring harness shop. Bill was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Anthony Cox; parents, Doc and Marguerite Cox; brothers, Jerry and Doug Cox.

Bill is survived by his wife, Martina (Williams) Cox of Loogootee; children, Robbie Drew, Marguerite Cox, Jarrod Cox and Patrick Cox; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Steve Cox; sisters, Patty Pettigrew, Connie Swafford and Darlene Riker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loogootee, officiated by Rev. J. Kenneth Walker and concelebrant Rev. Leo Kiesel. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loogootee.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery Fund, EWTN, Martin County Right to Life or Helping Hearts Hospice.
