Religious leaders plan to protest changes to religious law

Religious leaders are spearheading a movement against changes to Indiana’s religious objections law that some believed would allow discrimination against gays, lesbians and others.

Gov. Mike Pence this month approved changes to the law that prohibited merchants and groups from using it as a legal defense for refusing to provide services or to discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Members of the Indiana Pastors Alliance plan to protest the change Monday at the Statehouse and deliver letters to Republican leaders expressing their concerns.

Pastors Alliance Executive Director Ron Johnson told The (Munster) Times (http://bit.ly/1db9Fia) the fix removes religious freedoms and the group believes Republican leaders caved to corporate threats and special interests.

House Speaker Brian Bosma says the fix was necessary to save jobs threatened by boycotts.
