Washington Council and Board of Works

The Washington City Council had first reading of an ordinance concerning annexation of property near the Perdue Plant.

It includes 23.11 acres west of the Washington City Limits and south of Cosby Road.  The ordinance will be up for the 2nd reading at the next meeting in two weeks.

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a request from the Catholic Community to close portions of the Northeast 2nd and 1st Streets along with parts of Hefron and Flora Streets for their Washington Catholic Summer Social on June 6th.

The board denied a request from First Christian Church to close a portion of Walnut Street in front of the Courthouse on March 28th for an Easter Egg Hunt.  The general consensus being that..that section of Walnut is too busy of a thoroughfair in the city to shut down.

The Board also accepted bids for 8 Dodge Chargers for the Police Department.  They were going to go with Dobson Ford’s bids on some Explorers, but after bidding it was discovered only 2016 models with a different engine from the specs could be obtained.  The price also went up and there would’ve had to be a rebid for the vehicles.  The board decided to go with Washington Chrysler.
