City and County buy INDOT property

The Washington City Council and Daviess County Commissioners passed resolutions Monday to use Economic Development Income Tax  funds to join together to buy 14.2 acres of surplus land from INDOT.

The property includes the old REMC office near the I-69 and US 50 interchange.  After purchase, the city and county will re-sell the property to the Daviess County Economiic Development Foundation for potential economic growth.

The total price of the property was nearly $557,000.  City EDIT money will pay for $160,000 and the county’s EDIT fund pays the rest.  Then the DCEDF will pay the city and county for the property.

The go along with that action, the City Council held first reading of an ordinance concerning the transfer of the property.  The ordinance dealth with INDOT’s relinquishment of old 50 from the Old entrance on US 50 to the new roundabout.  The city will be responsible for mainteance on the the stretch of road.
