Schott Gemtron says it’s closing a unit at it’s Vincennes plant elminating 65 jobs.

The Evansville Courier and Press and Inside Indiana Business is reporting the move is due to a downturn in business and affects food display employees. The Courier and Press says Schott sent a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development saying their food display unit will shut down March 24th. Gemtron says it’s all part of a company wide reorganization.
The company says part of the contract with the Merrillville-based chapter of International Union of Painters & Allied Trades stipulated workers in the unit with seniority represented by the union will have the opportunity to displace less-senior workers in other part of the company.

In 2012, the company relocated the food display line from Kentucky. In 2013, it announced the move resulted in more than 100 jobs at the Vincennes facility.
