Leone M. Craney

Leone M. Craney, 91, passed away Wednesday at The Emerald Place in Washington.

She was born March 22, 1923, in Troy, to the late Leonard & Lillian (Wilson) Lasher. She graduated from St. Rose Academy in Vincennes. She married John “Jack” Lynch on Jan.20, 1945, and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1985. She married Thomas C. Craney on April 9, 1988, and he also preceded her in death on April 14, 2012.

She raised eight children, J. Patrick Lynch of Anchorage, Alaska, Terry (Brenda) Lynch of California, Cathy (Joe) Kendall of Washington, Danny (Shelley) Lynch of Scotsdale, Arizona, Shannon (Bob) Schwandner of Cape Coral, Florida and Dennis Lynch of Washington. She had three stepdaughters and their spouses, Linda and Arnold Sussman, Mary Ann and Mark Walton, Janet and Brad Steimel; and three stepsons and their spouses Fred (Janice) Craney, Jeff and Bev Craney, and Tim Craney; 11 grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren. Leone is also survived by two sisters, Mary Alice Gordon of Peoria, Illinois, and Judy Flick of Evansville; two brothers Bob Lasher of Arkansas, and Pete Lasher of Texas. She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Timothy Lynch; both parents; and two siblings, Julia Lasher and James Lasher.

Our mother is remembered by her children for her tireless efforts on their behalf. One of her special talents, as remembered by her children, was

splitting a half a gallon of Neapolitan ice cream into equal portions for all eight children every Friday night.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church Monday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ed Lee Mortuary.
