Most of Monday’s Daviess County Commissioner’s meeting centered around a discussion of the renewal of the County’s property and casualty insurance.

The Commissioners accepted the recommendation of local insurance broker, Paul Williams, to renew the policy with the current carrier, HCC.      While voting to renew, the Commissioners will consider changes in deductibles and other features at their next meeting.

The Commissioners also dealt with a vacancy on the Board of the Southeast Fire District.   The Commissioners said that both individuals under consideration were very good candidates.  On a motion by Commissioner Tony Wichman, Shawn Gabhart was appointed to the seat.   Due to family ties, Commissioner Nathan Gabhart abstained from the vote.

In other business, the Commissioners approved a corrective warranty deed on the description of property deeded to the County for the construction of a connector road between the Gateway Drive intersection with U.S. 50 and County Road 200 E, south of the U.S. 50 by-pass.

The Commissioners, tabled a request from Tom Graham to use $100,000 set appropriated to the County by the Economic Redevelopment Foundation for the construction of the road.  The move is necessary due to the recent annexation of the property into the City of Washington.

While favoring Graham’s request, the Commissioners want to be sure the money had been transferred to the County.
