INDOT conducts safety demonstrations

The Indiana Department of Transportation is holding demonstrations and presentations across the state this week promoting safety in highway work zones.
As part of Work Zone Safety Awarness Week, local INDOT representatives set up a demonstration in Vincennes explaining the different work zone signs and signals.
This week is not only meant to encourage drivers to stay safe, but the highway employees as well.  Cher Elliot with the Vincennes INDOT Office says every day starts out with a safety meeting for highway construction workers and flaggers...

This year's theme for the week is Work Zone Speeding, a Costly Mistake.  The campaign is meant to highlight the dangerous consequences of speeding through work zones.  In addition to fines and prison, work zone speeding can cause injury and death.
On average four of every five highway deaths in work zone crashes are drivers and passengers and not the  highway workers.
Some of the current major work zones in southern Indiana are resurfacing projects on State Road 64 in Gibson County, 54 in Greene County and I64 in Warrick County.
