City council addressing delapidated mobile homes

The Washington City Council is taking action concerning run-down rental trailers outside mobile home parks.  Mayor Joe Wellman explains…

There are between 200 and 300 rental mobile homes in the city, outside of the trailer parks.  Under a proposed ordinance, after the first of the year, when a rented mobile home becomes vacant, the owner must have the mobile home inspected by the Building Commissioner’s Office before being certified for occupancy.  The amendment only applies to rental mobile homes outside established mobile home parks.  The issue will be up for final vote at the next Council meeting.

Also last evening, the Board of Public Works approved the razing of a city owned house at 9 NE 15th and gave permission for the First Baptist Church to close NE 1st between Walnut and Hefron from 5 pm to 7 pm on Oct. 28.   The Board also approved a request from County Commissioner Michael Taylor to place a ground level portion of the sidewalk ice melt system at the new Daviess County Government Center on the city’s right of way surrounding the new building.
