George Golson & Sons dry goods and grocery. Don Cosby, our Daviess County Historian, reported over 50 grocery stores in Washington in the mid-1930s. The store is touting its association with the National Recovery Administration in the window. The NRA was an early New Deal program designed to manage competition, raise wages, and control prices; it was ruled unconstitutional in 1935 by the Supreme Court.
