City Council creates a Redevelopment Authority

city-council-2-5

Washington’s City Council passed a resolution and an ordinance to officially set up a Redevelopment Authority to receive State reimbursements for the upgrade of Business 50 through the heart of Washington.   The Authority is part of the process in setting up how to pay for the project.  Money used will come from the city’s Tax Increment Finance Zones.   Mayor Wellman said that survey crews were out working on the west section of road as the City continues to plan for the State’s turnover of the most used thoroughfare in Daviess County.

Mayor Wellman noted the upgrade of the road is more than a repaving project…

In other business, the Council agreed to the transfer of funds in the Street Department budget to replace two salt spreaders that broke down over the winter.  The Council also heard the first reading of an ordinance to vacate a street platted in the late 1800s, but never developed street west of the junction of NW 16th and Jackson Streets.  The strip is too narrow to meet modern road standards.
