Susan Wirts was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on Friday, March 1, 2019. She passed peacefully at home, due to heart failure.

She was born to Thomas William and Barbara Jean (Haynes) Wirts Sr. in Washington, Indiana, on Sept. 19, 1958. She is survived by her mother; sister Linda (John) Buckley; brother Thomas (Jilaine) Wirts II; and her children and grandchildren. She and Denny Killion had four children, Tiffany Killion of Pensacola, Florida, Amberly Killion of Washington, Indiana, Brad (Kristy) Killion of Fishers, Indiana, and Valerie (Nick) Haynes of Sellersburg, Indiana. She had seven grandchildren, Chay (Miller) Robinson, Hunter Killion, Eli Rayman, Brody Killion, Ava Killion, William and Olivia Haynes. She also had two great-grandchildren, Marleigh and Thomas Robinson. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas William Wirts Sr. and her grandparents, Ruby and Adeline (Garth) Wirts and Orville and Josephine (Aikman) Haynes.

She graduated from Washington High School in 1976 and went on to attend Vincennes University. She graduated suma cum laude with an Associates of Science degree to become a registered nurse. She passionately served her community as a nurse for 20 years. She spent those years caring for patients in home health, nursing homes and hospitals. She loved her patients as her own family and helped many families during their loved one’s final moments, caring for them, loving them, treating them with honor and respect. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.

Despite a busy working mom schedule, she spent her time attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities/events with great pride. She lived for her family. Although she told us daily, how much she loved us, it wasn’t necessary because she showed us every day. She spent her final moments in her prayer position, and we take comfort knowing that she whispered I love you as Jesus carried her home.

Her wishes were to be cremated and for a private family celebration of life. Her ashes will be buried in Sugarland Memory Gardens next to her father and one day her mother. Celebration of life will be held in June.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of Indiana at www.lupus.org/Indiana. A memorial fund has been set up at Old National Bank to help with final expenses or a Gofundme has been shared on Facebook. Any donations above what is needed for her final expenses will be donated to the Lupus Foundation.
