Daviess and Martin County Schools are among those eligible for a grant initiative to implement substance abuse and curriculum-based prevention programs for middle school aged students.

The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County is accepting applications for the Precision Health Network Funding Initiative.  Up to $100,000 is available for schools in grants ranging from $5000 to $20,000.

The Community Foundation’s  website  says the initiative was inspired by the Prevention Matters program based in Indianapolis which is projected to help over 150 schools in Marion County identify, begin and sustain proven substance abuse prevention programs.

Bloomington and Monroe County Community Foundation President Tina Petersen says early prevention programs can lower the percentage of incidents of teen substance abuse as abuse often begins in the middle school years.

Schools in Daviess, Martin, Greene, Orange, Monroe, Brown, Morgan and Owen Counties can apply for the grants.
