(NETWORK INDIANA)  Experts agree Indiana needs to have a better trained workforce if it wants to compete in bringing more jobs to the Hoosier state.

That’s why Governor Eric Holcomb told indypolitics.org he plans to invest more money into the state’s next two-year budget into the Next Level Jobs Initiative, which he said is working but just needs to tweaks.

“We’ll continue to make those tweaks, but good things will come. We’re seeing that with Next Level Jobs,” Holcomb said. “We’re looking to double our commitment to that program because it’s working. Every year we are going to try and do more of what works and less of what doesn’t.”

Holcomb said because the initiative is working, Indiana’s educators at the elementary, high school, and post-secondary level are taking advantage in offering a variety of ways to train Hoosiers.

“Now we’re starting to scale that up and out,” Holcomb added. “That’s exciting stuff. Because that is leading to that systemic change in the educational complex and responding to the market demands regionally.”

That, in turn, will lead to a better trained and more qualified workforce, says Holcomb.

He will reveal his proposed budget to state lawmakers after he gives in annual State of the State address January 10th. The 2019 General Assembly convenes January 3rd.
