Authorities say a man has died following an exchange of gunfire with police in Vigo County.
The Tribune-Star reports an autopsy is planned on the body of the 24-year-old man who died Tuesday night in Terre Haute. His name wasn’t immediately released.
Authorities say a West Terre Haute officer tried to stop a pickup truck for running a red light but the driver didn’t stop, then a Terre Haute officer jointed the pursuit. State police Trooper B.J. Patterson says the truck pulled into a parking lot and the driver got out holding handgun.
Patterson says officers told the man to put down the gun, but he fired at police. Patterson says both officers fired at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident.
