NEW YORK (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets had dropped eight in a row before D’Angelo Russell scored six of his team-high 29 points in overtime to lead a 106-105 triumph over the NBA-leading Toronto Raptors. Jarrett Allen drained the go-ahead basket for the Nets with a little more than a minute left, their only overtime basket not made by Russell. Kawhi (kah-WY’) Leonard a game-high 32 points for the Raptors, who dropped to 21-6.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson each hit four of Golden State’s 19 3-pointers and finished with 20 points apiece in a 105-95 verdict over the Bucks in Milwaukee. The Warriors nailed 41 percent of their 3-point attempts as Curry and Thompson went 4-for-9 from long range. Andre Iguodala added a season-high 15 points as the Warriors completed a 3-2 road trip with three straight wins.

DETROIT (AP) — Jimmy Butler poured in 38 points for the second straight game and led a 16-2 run in the fourth quarter of the 76ers’ 117-111 win at Detroit. Philadelphia trailed by 15 in the second half and played without Joel Embiid (joh-EHL’- ehm-BEED’), who was given the night off. Blake Griffin had 31 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit.

Notre Dame-UCLA basketball was big back in the day. The series began in 1952 and the teams last played nine years ago. That changes this weekend. UCLA coach Steve Alford wonders if players today grasp what this is all about. Says Alford: “If it doesn’t show up on a video game, they may struggle knowing the history of those things.”

UNDATED (AP) — Clemson’s high-octane offense is led by a pair of young, talented offensive players in quarterback Trevor Lawrence and tailback Travis Etienne. The duo has the No. 2 Tigers competing for another national title in the College Football Playoff. Clemson will play No. 3 Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl in one national semifinal on Dec. 29. Lawrence is a freshman with an ACC-leading 24 touchdowns. Etienne is the ACC player of the year with 1,463 yards and 21 TDs.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans are in a much different place now than the first time they faced the Indianapolis Colts this season when they were 0-3 and desperate for a win. Ka’imi Fairbairn made a field goal as time expired in overtime to lead the Texans to a 37-34 victory in that game and they haven’t lost since, reeling off a franchise-record nine straight wins entering Sunday’s rematch.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Jake Allen picked up his first shutout of the season and Alex Steen scored a power-play goal in the second period to send the St. Louis Blues past the Winnipeg Jets, 1-0. St. Louis tightened up its defense after the first period, allowing just 13 shots after Winnipeg had a 13-9 advantage in the opening period. The Blues stopped a four-game losing streak, climbed out of the NHL’s Central Division cellar and prevented the Jets from pulling within one point of the division lead.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — The Edmonton Oilers won for the fifth time in six games as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl (DRY’-sy-tul) combined for seven points in a 7-3 romp over the Wild. McDavid netted his 15th goal and had three assists, while Draisaitl scored twice in his three-point night. Darnell Nurse chipped in a goal and an assist for Edmonton, which is 6-2-1 under new coach Ken Hitchcock.
