After a long City Council meeting Tuesday night, Washington is a giant step closer to resolving the problems with Business 50, the City’s main east-west corridor.

Rusty Fowler, INDOT’s Assistant District Director presented the State’s proposal that would turn over control of the road from the west city limits to CR 200 E.   INDOT is offering Washington $1.5 million in state money over the next four years, $7.7 million in Federal Toll Road credits, and $11.1 million in LPA grants to renovate Business 50 through Washington.  The City’s basic responsibility would be to take care of infrastructure under the road bed.  Mayor Joe Wellman said the Council took steps to prepare the funding.

Wellman said the Council should act on the INDOT proposal at the next meeting.

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman has announced the 15th Street Bridge should be open by the end of the month.

In other business, at last night’s  meeting, the council passed ordinances defining and setting Parkinson’s space requirements for a dormitory: clarifying the wording in the EZ Employment District section of the Zoning Code, and updating the portion of the City Code dealing with the Storm Water Utility.  The updated fee schedule will go into effect on February 1.

The Council also heard a report from Team Up to Clean Up.  Speaking for the group of volunteers, Angela Quast reported 19 teams had removed over 3000 lbs of trash from the City’s Streets.
