County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius reported that the work on the Odon-Cannelburg Road is substantially complete. That was his news to the Daviess County Commissioners meeting yesterday.   With the completion of this phase of the project the Commissioners approved a letter of support for plans to apply for state funding for Phase 5 of the project.

The Commissioners gave some relief to the Town of Plainville.  In 2015, Plainville inadvertently paved around 1500 feet of CR 100 E, that belongs to the county.   Based on 2015 prices, the County agreed to reimburse Plainville $14,938.  Commissioner Michael Taylor noted that, while a mistake, the County was saved from paving that section of road.

The Commissioners also accepted the low quote of $27,648 from Washington Chrysler for a 4×4 pickup for the Highway Department.

In other business, the Commissioners approved Maintenance Supervisor Scott Schnarr’s request to add a new matron’s position and to move the maintenance assistant position from part-time to full time as the County prepares to open the Courthouse Annex in June.   The Commissioners also approved the appointment of Tony Potts as the Veterans Affairs officer.  Potts replaces Grant Chambers, who recently resigned.

In the report on the Court House Annex, the Commissioners heard that all three floors are in place, framing on the windows should begin this week, and the roof should go on the building beginning next week.
