A crowd gathered at the Daviess County Courthouse Monday for the annual Veteran’s Day Observance. The room was filled with area elementary students who listened to Lt. Commander Michael Lemons the Keynote Speaker. He is currently the Weapons Program Manager at Crane.
He addressed most of his comments to the kids telling them that when he got back from his last deployment in the Middle East, he came home to the National Anthem controversy. He said veterans can’t tell people to stand or not to stand for the flag because they all fought for the freedom for people to choose what they want. He went on to give a history lesson on the War of 1812 and the writing of the National Anthem to show why we should stand for the flag and anthem…

He added that all the hope that’s needed is in the red, white and blue.

He also told the kids not to be discouraged when they hear their elders talking about the state of the nation…

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman also addressed the crowd reminding us that peace is fragile and freedom is not free.
