Evelyn I. Bowens, 83, of Washington, Indiana, formerly of Plainville, passed away Nov. 10, 2018, in Evansville.

Born Feb. 25, 1935, in Elnora, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Firman and Fauntella (Lavely) Chestnut. She was a 1953 graduate of Elnora High School. Evelyn worked for RCA in Bloomington, Beuhler’s Red & White in Odon, JayC Foods and NASCO in Washington, retiring in 1997. She married Walter Bowens on July 10, 1978, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Evelyn was a member of Parkview Christian Church in Plainville, Indiana, and also belonged to the Washington Eagles Lodge 414 and the Washington American Legion Auxiliary 121.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Bowens; children Donna Pride, Stacy D. (Arthur Harvey) Padgett, Kris (Randi) Snyder, Lisa (Mike Dillon) Jochum, Natalie Bement, Toni (Ed) Lundy and Walter E. (Melissa) Bowens; grandchildren Jordan (Casey) Pride, Brody and Brylee Padgett, Steven (Tammy) Morris, Brandon Bowens, Jesse Bowens, Samantha (Ian) Rose, Bianca (Darren) Boatman, Casey Stephens, Tyler Snyder, Nathan Snyder, A.J. Harvey and Amanda Armes; great-grandchildren Shayleigh and Parker Pride, Braxton Fawks, Selena, Tabitha and Terry Morris, Landon, Kendrick, Lorelai and Elaina Boatman, Seth and Sadie Magana, and Madeline Parson; a sister, Janet Boger; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Norman and Jim Chestnut; and a daughter, Rita Ann Pride.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, in Gill Funeral Home, with Pastor Alfred Helms officiating. Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Plainville Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.gillsince1872.com
