Donald Ray Stites, 75, passed away at 8:56 am on November 5, 2018 at his residence. Don was born on December 6, 1942 in Minnesota the son of Ray and Mabel (McCallum) Stites.

Don served his country in the United States marine Corp. and started his career in law enforcement in 1969 with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. He worked as a deputy until 1971 and then started with the Vincennes Police Department retiring in 1996. Don was member of the American Legion, VFW, 40 et 8, Vincennes #1 Masonic Lodge F&AM, Hadi Shrine, Harmony Society, the Marine Corp League and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was instrumental in the All-Weather Firing Squad and very active with the Toys for Tots organization.

Survivors include his daughter, Dawn Blackwell and her husband John of Shelbyville, IN; and three grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mabel Stites and an infant sister Sheila Stites.

Graveside services for Don will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Asbury Chapel Cemetery in Northern Knox County. The All- Weather Firing Squad will conduct military honors and the Vincennes Police Department Honor Guard will present the flag.
