A busy local ballot expected to equal good turnout

election-2018-2

If absentees are indicators of voter turnout today, many will be voting.    In  Daviess County over 2100 of the over 17,500 registered voters have voted absentee.  County Clerk Janice Williams reports 126 ballots were collected by travel board and 285 were received by mail.

The Daviess County ballot is the busiest it’s been in years in a General mid-term election.  Several Democrats have stepped up to challenge Republican office holders.

Daviess County Democrat Chairman Ron Critchlow says there was not a democrat primary in May, so he got busy to appoint people to be on the ballot this fall…

Critchlow says since the candidates committed to being on the ballot, they’ve been working hard…

Republican County Chair Jan Hicks says that it’s good for voters to have a choice…

Hicks adds it’s good to see this much interest in a non-presidential election…

Taking a look at that Daviess County ballot….

For County Commissioner District 2, Republican Nathan Gabhart, current president of the commissioners is challenged by Democrat Larry Miller.

For County Council District 1, Incumbent Republican Dave Smith faces Democrat Dana Fulton to represent the northern part of the county.

For County Council District 2, 2 Montgomery residents are facing off.  Republican Tony Duncheon faces Democrat Michael S. Morris.  That victor there will fill the vacancy being left by Jaqueline Graber who is not running for re-election.

In Council District 4, Republican Incumbent Pat Dant is challenged by Democrat Vincent Sellers.

In a high profile, Township Trustee race, current Washington Township Trustee Michelle Guy is challenged by Democrat Ron Critchlow.

For Harrison Township Trustee, Republican Kimberly Armes is facing Democrat Brady Turner.

There are some school board races on this year’s ballot.

For Barr Reeve, current At-Large member Ron Boyd has two opponents.  He’s challenged by Rita Allen and Jody Shultheis.  The other two Barr Reeve School Board members are running unopposed.

In Washington, current board member in District 1, Pam Bartlett is challenged by Timothy Hedrick.  In District 4, Jay Armes and Rhett Williams are on the ballot.
