James L. Jenks, 64, of Vincennes, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Country Oaks Golf Course of which he was the Golf Pro.

He was born August 4, 1954 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Lynn and Doris (Tyler) Jenks.

Jim served as the golf pro at several golf courses in the State of Indiana including, the Bloomington Country Club, Vincennes Elks, and most recently, Country Oaks in Montgomery. He attended Anderson Heights High School and Ball State University. Jim loved music, especially jazz and blues. He loved finding new bands and sounds, often calling his daughters when he had found something that was “too cool” and needed to be shared. “Jenksie”, as he was referred to by his close friends, loved animals, especially dogs, and loved teaching all aspects of golf. He implemented the first Ladies Golf League at Bloomington Country Club and was especially proud of the children and young adults that he taught, be it high school or college golf teams. A PGA member for most of his adult life, Jimmie could be found everywhere on the golf course. He also loved maintaining the golf course when he had the opportunity, often with his Labrador, Dormie at his side on the course or in the cart. Jimmie never knew a stranger and treated everyone he met with dignity and respect. He will be missed tremendously by the golf communities of Anderson, Columbus, Bloomington and Vincennes. “Poppa Jim” will live on in the hearts of many, but especially through his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his two daughters, Mary Nicholson and her husband, Lloyd of New Iberia, Louisiana and Natalie Jenks and her fiancé, Mark Fodor of Indianapolis; a sister, April Jenks of Anderson; two grandchildren, Lucy and Beau Nicholson; and a nephew Courtney Kirchgessner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Carol Jenks.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Gardner Brockman Funeral Home with Rusty Thorne officiating.  Friends and visit with the family from Noon until the service.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Vincennes Animal Shelter at 1128 S.
