Bus stop where 3 kids were killed is being moved

(NETWORK INDIANA)   As the Fulton County community of Rochester mourns the loss of three children when a pick-up driver hit them as they were getting on a bus to school, many are asking Tippecanoe Valley Schools to consider rethinking where it’s bus stops are located.

The three siblings were hit at a bus stop along State Road 25 in Fulton County, a stretch of road that many neighbors said is notorious for traveling well over the 55-miles-an-hour speed limit.

Alyssa Shepherd was driving the pick up truck that hit the children. She blew by the bus as it had come to a stop with it’s stop-arm extended. Shepherd is charged with reckless homicide in the case.

In response to the incident, Tippecanoe Valley School says they will be relocating that particular bus stop along SR 25 to inside Meiser Park nearby. In addition the school district will be launching a “transportation safety review committee” to look into the safety of other bus stops within the district.

The committee will include Superintendent Blaine Conley, Fulton County Sheriff Christopher Sailors, and Kosciusko County Sheriff W.R. Goshert. The committee will also have input from school transportation experts, bus drivers and the district’s board of trustees.
