Gerald “Gary” Franklin Shouse

Gerald “Gary” Franklin Shouse, 83, passed away September 11 in Evansville, IN surrounded by his family and pastor. He was born on June 14, 1935 in Monroe City to Frank and Madge Shouse. He worked most of his life as a farmer but also held occupations as a coal miner, construction, and logging. Gary was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Monroe City. Gary was a proud member of the Monroe City Masonic Lodge #548 for 60 years. He was also a proud member of the Knox County Shrine & the Hadi Shrine of Evansville, the NRA, and the American Legion. Gary was President of the Mt Zion Cemetery Association and Monroe City High School Alumni Association. He was a member of the 1953 Sectional Championship Basketball Team. Gary was an avid sports fan & loved cowboy movies. He was a collector of antique tractors and toy tractors.

Gary is survived by his wife, Evelyn Shouse; daughters, Millie (Rob) Hansen and Nancee (Mike) Scott; grandchildren, Chad (Jess) Hansen, Emily (Jay) Cockerham, Calvin (Michele) Scott, and Carrie (Clayton) Willis; and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, baby girl Shouse; and sisters, Miriam Bullard and Virgie Smith.

Visitation for Gary will take place on Friday, Sept. 14, from 4-8 PM EST at Walnut Grove Church in Monroe City. Service will be held Saturday at 12 PM with visitation from 10 AM until service at the church. Pastor Brenda Wick will be officiating and burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Monroe City Masonic Lodge #548 or the Walnut Grove Church of Monroe City. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
