Rita E. Brown, 95, of Washington, Indiana, passed away August 29, 2018, at 11:29 p.m. at Emerald Place Senior Living.

She was born in Vincennes, Indiana on June 7, 1923, to Louis M. and Josephine P. (Cabsier) Hunckler.

Rita was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and the oldest living member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a former member of the Early Morning Homemakers and in 1969 joined the Laurel Lane’s Bowling League and was a member until 2013. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to three different card clubs, one being the Golden Girls which was started in 1974. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, Harry (Deborah) Brown and Bill (Michelle) Brown of Washington, Mick (Julie) Brown of Newburgh and John Brown of Evansville; daughter, Kathy (John) Hopkins of Washington; sisters, Vera Allegree of Bridgeport, Illinois, Marilyn Prather of Palm Harbor, Florida and Nancy Ditsler of The Villages, Florida; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Brown, whom she had married on April 20, 1949 and passed away on September 5, 1994; son, Donald James who died April 5, 1952 at the age of four months old; three brothers, Norman, Jim and John Hunckler; six sisters, Norma Herr, Anna Troutman, Emily Dowbak, Ola Kramer, Dorothy Bilskie and Shirley Cardinal.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 5, with Fr. Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Ed Lee Downtown Chapel, 101 North Meridian Street, Tuesday, September 4, with the DofI praying the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery.
