Unemployment numbers for July

 Indiana’s unemployment rate edged higher in July from June.

        The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the rate was 3.5 percent, up from 3.3 percent in June.

      The state’s rate remained below the national rate of 3.9 percent.

        Indiana’s labor force had a net increase of more than 15,500 over the previous month, which was a result of nearly 3,000 unemployed residents no longer seeking employment and a 12,600 increase in residents employed. The state says Indiana’s total labor force is about 3.3 million.

        Looking at county numbers; Daviess County has a 2.8% unemployment rate for July equal to a year ago.  Knox County’s rate went up a 10th from July 2017 to 3.5%.  Pike County’s numbers were 3.4% the same as a year ago.   Martin County dropped to 2.8% this July compared to 3.1% last July.

        Dubois County still has the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.4% which is tied with Elkhart and Bartholomew Counties.
