Vincennes Lincoln Head Basketball Coach Josh Thompson has resigned from Lincoln this week and will take over the reins at Barr-Reeve this next season.  Thompson will replace long time coach Bryan Hughes who announced his retirement earlier this month from the Vikings.  Thompson spent two years with Lincoln and leaves with a record of 27-15.  Last year the Alices finished 17-9 under Thompson. The Barr-Reeve School Board met yesterday and voted to officially hire Thompson for the position.  His previous coaching jobs were at Wood Memorial and Springs Valley.  The Wood Memorial Trojans won two sectional titles in a row with Thompson, in 2015 and ’16.

The Washington Times Herald quoted Thompson giving praise to former coaches Albert Kavanaugh and Bryan Hughes.  He called Kavanaugh’s groundwork and emphasis on fundamental play, the cornerstone of the Barr Reeve program.  Of Hughes, Thompson said he’s a better coach because of his interactions with Hughes on an off the sidelines.

Barr Reeve Superintendent Travis Madison called the process to hire a new coach tedious and gave thanks to Josh Doyle and Aaron Ash for their work in the process.
