Joseph A. Alvis, age 87, of Evansville, passed away at 3:00 AM on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Park Terrance Village in Evansville.

He was born on February 22, 1931 in Washington to Homer A. and Bertha (Davies) Alvis. He graduated from Washington Catholic High School and was a US Army and Navy Veteran. He was retired from the Indiana Department of Insurance as an Administrator Assistant. He loved fishing, boating, hunting and anything outdoors.

He is survived by his children,  Bob (Susan) Alvis of Carmel , Belinda (Charles) Beatty of Hatfield, Mary Ann (Wayne) Rueger of Foley, Alabama, Myra (David) Reeder of Foley, Alabama, and Chris Alvis of Evansville; grandchildren, Robert Alvis, Leo Alvis, Danny Alvis, Curtis Beatty, Danny Avery, Jason Avery, TJ Schafer, Taylor Bagby, Lindsay (Damon) Barnett, Adrianne (Corey) Lenfers, Ariel (Matt) Summers, Sarah Alvis, and Mikey Joe Alvis; four great grandchildren, MaKaylee Lenfers, Tylen Rueger, Scarllett Rueger, and Page Rueger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane (Manning) Alvis; two sons, Richard Alvis and Mike Alvis; one sister Edna Whitley; and one brother, Bob Alvis.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary downtown chapel 101 North Meridian Street, Washington, Indiana 47501 with Father James Koressel officiating. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will from 10 AM till 1 PM on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
