Today is an Ozone Action Day for part of the area.  Daviess, Knox and Greene Counties are under an Ozone Alert issued by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.  The high temperatures today and light winds will produce high levels of ozone emissions that could exceed federal standards.    Try not to drive much or us gas powered equipment until after 7-pm, don’t let an engine idle for over 30 seconds and conserve energy by turning off lets and keeping the ac around 75.

The National Weather Service is advising it’s going to be a hot and humid weekend.  In a special weather statement, weather experts say the heat index will top out at 100 to 105 west of Mount Vernon, Illinois to Cadiz Kentucky today.  Then over the weekend, the heat will build east with an afternoon heat index value of up to 105 across southwest Indiana, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky.   Be sure and wear light weight and light colored clothing outdoors.  If working or playing outside take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors in the AC.  Drink lots of non-alcohol beverages.
