John G. Burger, 60, of Jasper, passed away at 8:30 p.m. CDT, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.

John was born in Jasper on September 14, 1957, to Virgil and Anna Mae (Schnaus) Burger.  He married Cathrine Titzer on November 13, 1993, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

John was a fifth generation independent turkey farmer.

He was active in local politics, serving the public for 18 years, first as a County Councilman and later as a County Commissioner.

He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, where he had served on the school board.

He enjoyed gardening, coaching and watching his children play sports, and was an avid Purdue sports and University of Evansville basketball fan.

Surviving are his wife, Cathrine Burger of Jasper; three daughters, Jordan Burger, Indianapolis, Olivia Burger, Jasper, and Emily Burger, Jasper; one son Caleb Burger, Jasper; his mother, Anna Mae Burger, Jasper; two sisters, Kathy Hopf (Gary), Jasper, and Lisa Melloh (Nick), Indianapolis; and two brothers, Mike Burger (Shannon), Chesterfield, Missouri, and Jim Burger (Beth), Evansville.

Preceding him in death was his father, Virgil Burger.

A Mass of Christian Burial for John G. Burger will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Funeral Home in Jasper, and from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service time at Precious Blood Catholic Church on Saturday.
