Charles W. “Dutch” Rath of Vincennes peacefully passed away May 19th. He wasborn April 1, 1928 in Elkville, Jackson County, Illinois.
He was the son of Phillipand Lura Rath. Dutch married Joyce Lee Sayre, September 10, 1954, in Trinidad,Colorado. Joyce preceded him in death on December 9, 2011.
He is survived bytwo children, Kimberly Rath Modrowski (Thomas Modrowski) of St. John,Indiana and Phillip Sayre Rath (Marianne Hulen) of Vincennes, Indiana; his sixgrandchildren, Kristin Modrowski (Frank) Kantroski from Valparaiso, Indiana, Kellee Modrowski (Chris) Wyzgowski from St. John, Indiana, Katye Modrowski(Sean) McDonald from Parker, Colorado, Phillip Mitchell (Amanda) Rath ofVincennes, Todd Alan (Laura) Rath of Vincennes, and Jennifer Rath (Cody)Gilbert of Evansville; and his eighteen great grandchildren, Mila, Harry, andDutch Kantroski , Nina, Frannie, Max, and Beau Wyzgowski, Lucy, Gwen, andTommy McDonald, Noah and Baylor Rath, Keaton, Campbell, Bristol, andBrecken Rath, Sadie and Greyson Gilbert.
Dutch graduated from Elkville Community High School. Shortly thereafter, heenlisted in the U.S. Army and served the Armed Forces Special WeaponsGroup with the 8450 Military Police Battalion. Following his discharge heattended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, IL, and later graduatedfrom the Park School of Business in Denver, Colorado.
After 32 years of service, Dutch retired from the Federal Department of Labor,Mine Safety and Health Administration in Vincennes as a Supervisor of theDistrict Engineering Group. Dutch was an avid golfer, gardener, and a verygentle man. He loved to listen to the sounds of nature with his early morningcup of coffee.
Friends may visit with Dutch’s family from 4-7 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. There will be a family gravesideservice at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Ray Tromley officiating. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to theGood Samaritan Hospice Program would be appreciated.
