County Council approves voting machine update

The Daviess County Council Wednesday approved a request by County Clerk Janice Williams to update the County’s voting machines before the general election in November.  The cost will be a little over $89,000.  Williams said she is also investigating grants to help pay for the updates.  The updates would also be necessary if Daviess County moved to voting centers as several other counties have done.  In this past primary election, Greene County used vote centers. They were 10 polling places across the county and voters could use any one they chose to cast their ballot.

The Daviess County Council also heard a report from County Auditor Patty Ball and Treasurer Elaine Wellman on using German American Bank’s Positive Pay program.  Wellman and Ball said the program provides another level of internal control and fraud protection before checks reach the County’s accounts.   Wellman also told the Council that by using the Track Program, the County had recouped $169,000 in delinquent taxes in February.
