Checking out some of the election day activity surrounding Daviess County…

In Knox County there is a five person Republican race for Sheriff.

Mike Fisher, Dean Schingeck, Doug Vantlin, and Chris Harmon all want to be the next Sheriff to succeed Mike Morris who cannot run again due to term limits.  Morris has been Sherriff for going on 10 having been appointed in February of 2009 after former Sherriff Steve Luce left office and became the Executive Director of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association.  Morris went on to win two terms.  He’s not done yet though, he is the lone Republican candidate on today’s ballot for Knox County Auditor.

The only other contested Knox County race is for Assessor. Republican Kathy Lane is challenged by Kelly Kopp Hopwood.

Five candidates, 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans want to be Pike County Sheriff.

On the Democrat side, Chief Deputy Kent Johnson, Deputy Brad Jenkins and former FBI agent John Bellamy are facing off.  For the Republicans, former State Trooper and Petersburg Mayor Frank Coleman and Jeffrey Davis II are on the GOP ballot.

County Commissioner District 2 Candidates for the Democrats are Heath Scraper and Steve Vian.

For Pike County Council District 2 on the Republican side, former Mayor Jon Craig and LAN Construction sale and marketing manager Charles Lemond and Real Estate Agent Shawn McGillem are running today.

For County Council District 3 Republican Incumbent Max Elliott is facing challenger Jim Johns.

In Martin County there are no contested races for county offices.  There are a few for some town board seats and offices in Crane and Shoals.
