John Joseph Patterson, 80, passed away on May 2, 2018, in Norfolk, VA, while on vacation, after an automobile accident caused by a distracted driver. John was born on February 24, 1938, in Vincennes the son of Robert Wise and Catherine Eva (Dutton) Patterson.

John graduated from Fritchton High School in 1956, and earned an Associate in Science Division of Agriculture degree from Vincennes University in 1959.

John was a lifelong farmer who owned and operated Patterson Farms, Inc. John recently worked at Vincennes University in numerous capacities, including driving the university bus for various sports teams. He was a member of First Baptist Church-Vincennes where he sang in the church choir and participated in dinner theatre productions. John was a member of the George Rogers Clark Chapter of the Indiana State National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and was in the process of becoming the Chapter Chaplain and a member of the Color Guard. Throughout his life, activities were Vincennes University Theatre, Generations volunteer, several Barbershop Quartets and the Hoosier Heritage Harmonizers chorus. John’s passions were landscaping, singing, theatre, travel, and history.

Survivors include his wife Pamela Patterson of Vincennes; mother-in-law Edna Marie Senteney of Indianapolis; daughters, Dr. Kathleen Sue Patterson and son-in-law Wayne Lasher of Magee, MS, Johni Joan Sivley and her husband David of Terre Haute, Gayle L. Anslinger of Ft. Myers, FL, Andrea Patterson Wrenn and son-in-law Floyd of Union, KY; step-son, Gregory Alan Dunn of Indianapolis; brothers-in-law Donald and his wife Beth, Daniel, Keith, and Rex Senteney of Indianapolis, and sister-in-law Donna Gore of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Christina Marie Hostetler and her husband Jason, Jonathan Sivley, Jordan, Taylor, Noah, and Payton Anslinger, Alexander Bach and Cooper Alan Wrenn; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Nicholas Hostetler; nephew, Douglas Patterson and his wife Julie; niece Mary Ann Patterson; great nephews Brett, and Nick (Michelle) Jackson, and great great niece Noelle Jackson. John was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Janice Sue Webster Patterson, brother, David M. Patterson, sister-in-law, Mary Jean Patterson, and father-in-law Donald J. Senteney Sr.

Friends may visit with John’s family on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 2625 Wabash Avenue, Vincennes, IN, from 4-7 p.m.  Funeral services for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Phillip Walthall officiating.  Interment will follow in Upper Indiana Cemetery.
