Sex offender verification ends in two arrests

A check on a registered sex offender’s address in Martin County led to search warrants and two arrests.

        The Martin County Sheriff’s Department released details yesterday of the arrests that happened this past weekend.

        They say that on Saturday as Deputy Tyler Reed was approaching the home of registered sex offender Charles A. Taylor to verify the offender and address, He smelled burnt marijuana.  A small child and Taylor answered the door and the odor got stronger.  After completing the verification, Deputy Reed left and contacted the Martin County Prosecutor for a search warrant.  More deputies served the warrant and marijuana and paraphernalia were located.  Taylor and Christopher L. Ruble were arrested at the home for Possession and Nuisance charges.  Taylor was also charged with two counts of Neglect of a Dependent.  The Department of Child Services assisted in the investigation.
