Gordon “Bruce” Opell

Gordon “Bruce” Opell, 66, passed away at 11:23 am on March 23, 2018 at his residence. Bruce was born on February 2, 1952 in Vincennes the son of Paul and Agnes (Gordon) Opell. He married Sheila Lange on May 5, 1988.

Bruce served his country in the United States Air Force. He had been the maintenance supervisor for Lewis Bakery since their opening, and he was now retired, self-employed working in his own shop. He enjoyed racing, airplanes and he was a personal pilot. Bruce also enjoyed doing classic car restorations, and he collected guns and was able to build and produce anything imaginable.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Opell of Vincennes; daughters, Stacy Heck and her husband Doug of Brazil, Chasity Jones and her husband Brent of Wheatland, son, Thad Talley and his wife Angie of Port St.  Lucie, FL; brother, Terry Opell and his wife Nancy of Vincennes; grandchildren, Ashley and Megan Heck, Alex and Nathan Jones, Ayden Talley; and brother-in-law, John Walters of Vincennes. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Paula Walters.

Friends may visit with Bruce’s family on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home from 4-8 pm. Bruce’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with Dr. George Ford officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospital Infusion Center or Good Samaritan Hospice. Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to assist Bruce’s family with arrangements.
