James Robert Smith, 66, of Vincennes, passed away at his home on March 22, 2018.

He retired from the US Air Force as a master sergeant. Jim did two tours of duty in Vietnam, and served in 37 different countries during his 20 years of service. An expert in avionics and electronics, he was called to solve mechanical issues all over the globe. He spent several years living in England, and lived in the Philippines for 5 years.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jim went to work at Crane Naval Base. He joined the VFW in Loogootee, IN and served as a trustee. His other memberships included the American Legion Post #73 in Vincennes, IN (where he was a dual member as the son of a member and his own membership), the DAV, and the Eagles. Fishing and bowling were some of his favorite activities.

Born July 14, 1951, in South Bend, IN, he was the son of Robert and Stella (Robertson) Smith. His parents, and a brother, Walter Smith, preceded him.

Surviving is his wife, Myrna (Andalis) Smith, whom he married April 29, 1974; his children, Jeremiah Smith and his wife, Blanca, of Colorado Springs, CO, Tammy Squires and her husband, Robert, of Anaheim, CA, Robert Christopher Smith and his wife, Micah, of Las Vegas, NV, and Michael Smith of Vincennes; his sister, Leslie LeGrand and her husband, Tom, of Galveston, TX; his brothers, Steve Smith and his wife, Merilee, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Dr. Gregory Smith and his wife, Heidi, of Spokane, WA; and his grandchildren, Marc Smith, Felix Smith, Adelyn Squires, Alina Squires, and Riley Smith.

There will be no services. Goodwin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
