It was one year ago today residents in the region were cleaning up from some major storms from the day before.

High winds caused havoc before the 5-am hour on March 1st 2017 knocking down power lines, limbs and trees.  The biggest losses occurred on area farms where straight line winds destroyed several grain bins and destroyed sheds and equipment.

The storm moved into Martin County causing more damage, and in Ireland in Dubois County it was eventually determined a tornado had touched down there.  There was also a confirmed tornado in Gibson County which damaged and destroyed some homes there.

Pike county had roads shut down and power outages throughout the day last year due to the high winds that rolled through after a couple of 70 degree days.

Again all that happened a year ago today.  It’s a good reminder that we are moving into storm season and time to reacquaint yourself with emergency plans should something happen.
