Coaches Could Be Looking at Mandatory Heat Exhaustion Training

(NETWORK INDIANA)   Indiana may require high school coaches to undergo training in how to prevent or treat heat exhaustion.

Westfield athletic trainer Tim Drudge says an average of four high school athletes a year die of heat exhaustion. That’s enough to make it the biggest single killer of student-athletes:

The Indiana High School Athletic Association already offers optional training classes on heat-related illnesses. Chandler Representative and former coach Ron Bacon’s bill would make it coaches’ second required course, along with concussion training.

The House unanimously approved the bill. A Senate committee will vote on it next week.
