The Vincennes Police Department arrested a man for arson early yesterday morning.

At 2:41-am, 31-year-old Ronnie L. Wingard was booked into the Knox County Jail on the charge in connection with a Monday night house fire at 411 Harrison Street in Vincennes.

The arrest came as the result of a joint investigation of the Vincennes Police and Fire Departments and the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office.

The fire call went out at 9:45 on Monday night.  The home was destroyed in the blaze.  There were no injuries.

Wingard is being held for Arson on a $1500 bond.

Vincennes Fire Chief Sonny Pinkstaff told the  Vincennes Sun Commercial they saw Wingard watching as firefighters fought the blaze.  They sought him out for questioning.  They later learned Wingate allegedly set fire to the bedroom of the home after being evicted recently.

That fire was one of three worked by the VFD Monday. The other was at just before 4-pm at the All American Car Wash.  It was an electrical fire in the building’s main electrical panel.  Then the fire department was called to Forbes Road where a home owned by Mathew Newman was on fire.  That was a kitchen fire that was put out quickly. There were 11 cats in the fire and all were rescued.  Some had to be resuscitated. They were then taken to a local vet.
