(photo from  Dubois County Free Press)       A postman from Jasper did more than just deliver the mail on Tuesday morning — he saved a woman’s life.

Jasper Police say postal worker Shane Nicholoson was delivering mail when he saw smoke coming from a house on Birk Drive. He jumped into action and helped the woman outside. She was badly burned and is being treated in Louisville.

No one else was in the house at the time. Firefighters saved the woman’s dog and cat.

Fire investigators say the woman tried to light a cigarette and accidentally set her recliner and coffee table on fire. The flames spread from there.
