The Washington School Board held a work session discussing the future of the corporation’s elementary schools.

Attending the session were architects and financial consultants as the administration considers the possibility of grade leveling.  That is having a specific grade level in one building.

The Washington Times Herald  quoted board member Randy Bouchie as saying most of the comments he’s heard are in favor of grade leveling.  The school board is now considering whether adding on to existing buildings is worth it and which buildings to add onto.  Each of the corporation’s 4 elementary schools present their own challenges and differences in what can and can’t be done.

No decisions have been made as the school board continues to discuss and investigate options.

As far as a price tag, the newspaper reports a $20 million bond could be paid off over a 20-year period costing $1.7 million per year and raising the tax rate from .024 to .028

Again no decisions on any project have been made.
