Tom D. Turner, 67, passed away at 3:05 pm on January 15, 2018 at his residence. Tom was born in Vincennes on January 10, 1951 the son of Robert Donald and Loueva (Tisdale) Turner. He married Brenda Pinkston on August 15, 1970.

Tom was a local basketball standout for Vincennes Lincoln High School in 1968-1969 where he held the individual single game scoring record of forty-three points and this record was held until 1990. He then went on to play basketball for Vincennes University and helped lead them to win the NJCAA championship in 1970. After leaving Vincennes University he received a scholarship to attend West Georgia College where he broke the individual scoring record of forty-four points for a single game, as well as helped them win their first ever National Championship in 1974. After leaving West Georgia College Tom was drafted by the Washington Bullets. Tom then moved back to Vincennes in 1976 joining the Vincennes Police Department and retired in 1998 as a Police Sergeant. Tom had been a member of the Vincennes Boat Club. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion, Vincennes #1 Masonic Lodge F&AM, and the Hadi Shrine. Tom enjoyed lawn work, fishing and boating, and spent the biggest part of his life fishing and boating on the Wabash River.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Turner of Vincennes; daughters, Theresa Simpson and her husband Benjamin of Evansville, Tonya Frederick and her husband Shawn of Petersburg; son Travis Turner and his wife Sonya of Evansville; grandchildren, Gavin Diggs, Reed Smith, Katelyn Turner, Thomas Turner, Nathan Carie; brother-in-law, Joe Pinkston and his wife Beth of Vincennes; sister-in-laws, Sherry Bezy and her husband Frank of Fairbanks, Alaska and Karen Turner of Vincennes. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert and Harold Turner.

Funeral services for Tom will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with Pastor Peter Haskins officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4-8 pm and on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from noon until the hour of service time of 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
