A local basketball standout and businessman has passed away at the age of 81.
Sam Gee, born in Elnora and a 1954 grad of Washington High School died Sunday. He attended Indiana University on a basketball scholarship and was a member of teams that won back-to-back Big Ten championships in the 1956-57 and 1957-58 seasons.
Later in life he formed the Sam’s Gee Management Co. leased properties and developed hotels, including the Baymont Inn & Suites in Washington, which remained under his and grandson Joris’s management until its sale this year.
Sam Gee’s Funeral is 1pm Friday at the Christ United Methodist Church on Meridian Street in Washington.
