The 2017 installment of Daviess County’s Cops and Kids program is December 19th.

Over 100 kids at 4 Rivers Pre-School and Head Starts  from Daviess and Martin Counties are escorted to the Washington Wal-Mart that day to shop for a list of items each child has.  Those items include needed clothing. Then they take a trip to the toy department. The yearly event is funded by donations from businesses, organizations, clubs and the Wal-Mart Foundation. Police, fire, first responders and DNR officers are all involved in shopping with the kids in the annual Christmas time event.

The Chairman of the project is Steve Riney who has been involved for nearly 30 years, says last year $28,000 was donated and spent on almost 200 kids.  That amounts to about $125 per child which does not include treats and lunch provided after the shopping.   You can make your donations to this year’s Cops and Kids at the Police Departments in Washington, Odon and Loogootee and the Daviess and Martin County Sheriff’s Department.
