It’s Christmas Time

The local Christmas season gets into full swing today  The Daviess County Christmas lighted parade is happening at 6-pm tonight.  Lineup is at Northeast 7th and Bedford Road.  Various prizes will be awarded to some of the entries.  Judging will take place at line-up and to eligible for judging, there must be lights on your entry.  The theme this year is “A Candyland Christmas.”   Organizers had preferred preregistration, however, if you show up with an entry at line-up they will likely find a spot for you.  There’s no cost to enter.

Today is Small Business Saturday.  It’s designed as is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores.   Small Business Saturday, meanwhile, encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.  The annual event began 7 years ago by American Express.

You can celebrate the day today by hitting up small businesses here.  The Holiday Stroll is happening in downtown Washington today with several local merchants and participating.  Also they are playing Elf on a Shelf with the prize of a gift basket for an adult and child.  All of this goes before tonight’s parade.  Daviess County Chamber of Commerce Director talked with us on Focus on the Community this week and talked about the importance of shopping local whenever you can.  She said about 70 dollars of every 100 spent local stays local.
