Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has directed flags in Daviess County to be flown at half staff.  The declaration came down this morning as an honor to Montgomery Volunteer Firefighter Kendall Murphy.  The 27 year old died Friday in the line of duty while responding to an accident.

Sad, tragic, and heartbreaking are the words being used on social media in reaction to Saturday morning’s news of Murphy’s death.  Murphy had just exited his vehicle after arriving on the scene of Old 50 and 800-east in response to what turned out to be a drunk driving crash Friday night.   He was hit by a pickup driven by another firemen also responding to the crash.  That pickup hit a total of three vehicles before coming to a stop.  It was driven by 26 year old Colby Blake who tested .21% blood alcohol content and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.  Formal charges are pending from the Daviess County Prosecutor.

Governor Holcomb has directed all flags be flown at half-staff until sunset tomorrow.  Kendall Murphy’s funeral is tomorrow morning at 11 at the Simon J. Graber Complex on the Odon Cannelburg Road.
