Jean Ellis, 89, of Loogootee, passed away at 7:47 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

She was born January 12, 1928 in Loogootee, Indiana to the late Earl and Catherine (Gootee) Mills.

Jean was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Altar Society. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, gardening, reading and baking.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen James Ellis; Parents, Earl and Catherine (Gootee) Mills; Siblings, Eileen (Leo) Nolan, Elma Rose (Everett) Hansen, Anna B. (Ray) Farmer, Jim Mills, Bob Mills and Regina Mills; Sister-in-law, Juanita Mills; Brothers-in-law, Earl Lucas and Bill Payne.

Jean is survived by her children, Alan J. Ellis of Washington, Patricia Parsons, Diane Padgett, both of Loogootee and Mary Kay Perkins of Jasper; Grandchildren, Denise (Allen) Henninger, Chris Parsons, both of Loogootee, Derek Parsons and Leigh Benjamin of Odon, Brian (Julie) Padgett of Loogootee and Matt (April) Padgett of Columbus; 9 Great-Grandchildren; Siblings, Glenn Mills of Greenwood, Norene Lucas of Seattle, Washington, Alice Payne of Beach Grove, Ed (Sue) Mills of Lynden, Washington and Earl (Ruth) Mills of Loogootee; Sisters-in-law, Dianna Mills of Vero Beach, Florida and Norma Mills of Greenwood; Numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
