The Indiana of Rural and Community Affairs announced 15 million dollars in approved grants across the state yesterday.  Among them, a half million dollar matching grant to Daviess County’s Washington Township Fire Department.  The funds will be used to build a brand new fire station on Bedford Road to replace the current one which is in dire straits.  The new building will be 62X80, have four bays plus a maintenance bay, storage and meeting rooms, a restroom and small kitchen.  Department Chief Tony Wichman told the Washington Times Herald that it’s dandy news and will give them the ability to redistribute trucks, allow space for equipment including a secure place for communications equipment.  It’s the 2nd time the Department applied for the grant. They were turned down last year. They hope to tear down the current building and build the new one next spring.  The department will match the $500,000 in state grants with a local match of $63,000.

The city of Vincennes also received a half million dollar grant from the same program.  It’ll be used for their Main Street Revitalization Project to make improvements to nine different properties along Main in downtown Vincennes from 1st to 11th Street.
